Capitalism. I’m sure most of us know the term. The production and selling of items for profit to put it simply. Consumerism. Another term we may be familiar with. Here, increasing the consumption of products that are purchased is the ultimate goal.

Now that our key terms are out of the way, let's talk about how these terms relate to today’s topic.

“WitchTok” and Spiritual TikTok

Spirituality and Witchcraft have become extremely popular in the social media realm, especially since Covid-19. With too much time on everyone's hands due to quarantine, it was a great time to find some sort of inner peace during that crazy period. Then “WitchTok” and Spiritual TikTok were born.

Now in the beginning of the witchy, candle, crystal period, it was pretty great (I was someone who was also on the spirituality side of TikTok and Instagram). Communities were coming together during a stressful time, sharing their affirmations, burning incense, chillin’, etc. But like most topics on social media, they can develop negatives quite quickly when they become trends.

Over time, spirituality and witchcraft became “trendy”. It was hip to be a…
